Airsoft vs Paintball - Which is Better?

Airsoft Vs Paintball - Which is Better?

By Jordan English

There are pros and cons to both airsoft and paintball. I will list them out and let you decide which is better.

Let's start with airsoft:

Pros

  • Cheaper to play
  • Cleaner
  • Less painful
  • More play options

Cons

  • Judged on the honesty system
  • BBs are not all biodegradable
  • Not as popular

Now the pros and cons of paintball.

Pros

  • The paint shows were the person was hit
  • More popular
  • Many accessories and upgrades available
  • More realistic

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Painful
  • Messy

Airsoft is generally cheaper to play than paintball because the ammo is much cheaper than paintballs. Quality paintball guns can cost hundreds more than airsoft guns, but they are about the same price for low to mid level guns. There is more safety gear required for paintball.

Paintball is a messy game. Paint ends up everywhere. It should wash out of clothing and wash away when it rains, but depending on the surface it may not wash out. The only mess airsoft makes is the ammo its self. There are biodegradable BBs that will dissolve in about 4 months, but many people choose the less expensive plastic BBs.

Paintball is much more popular than airsoft. There are teams virtually everywhere and many tournaments all over the country. Airsoft has teams and tournaments as well, but it is not as big as paintball. One of the reasons for that is that when you get hit with a paintball, everyone knows because they can see it. When you get hit with an airsoft BB, you are probably the only person that knows because there is no mark. The person firing may not even know with certainty that they hit you. Because of this, there is more cheating involved with airsoft than with paintball.

Both sides have many different scenarios like capture the flag, war reenactments, attacking a village, etc. Those who have played both airsoft and paintball prefer scenario paintball over scenario airsoft because of the proof of hit and many players like the pain from a paintball gun more than airsoft. That sounds masochistic, but it makes the game more life like. If you know it is going to hurt and you will probably have a welt, you will most likely play better and be more careful. With airsoft it can still hurt, but not as bad as a paintball.

As far as which is better, it all depends on what experience you want to have. If you want to keep it clean and not spend a lot of money, then airsoft is better. If you want the play to be more real and you have the money to spend, then paintball might be what you are looking for. Either way, they are both a whole lot of fun and if you have not tried either of them yet I highly recommend you do. The best way to decide which is better is to do them both.

How to Start an Airsoft Team

How to start an airsoft team. Once you have played airsoft you only want to play more. A team can really help you out with that. The more people you have playing the more opportunities you have to play.

Most teams start out as friends getting together to play, but if you want to play in a large scenario, you will need to seek out other airsoft enthusiasts. There are a few ways to do this.

  • Ask everyone you know who they know that plays airsoft. You'd be surprised how many friends of a friend play airsoft.
  • Post an ad seeking airsoft players on craigslist.com or backpage.com
  • Search forums for local groups
  • Use social networking sites like facebook and myspace
These are the most effective ways I have found to find more players for airsoft.

If you want more than a get together, you need to hold practices and assign squad leaders. Each squad has a separate purpose whether it is sniping, gunning, reenforcement, etc. The leaders should be able to motivate their group and do it in a positive way. If personalities clash, chances are one person will leave.

Airsoft is an extreme sport that is loads of fun to play with many people. Having a team opens up more opportunities to travel the country playing airsoft against other teams. There is a gun for every type of player whether you want airsoft sniper rilfes, shotguns, semi-automatic rilfes, pistols, etc.

Why Are Airsoft Sniper Rilfes Popular?

Why are airsoft sniper rifles popular? When a person wants to start playing airsoft the gun they most often want is an airsoft sniper rife. There is a reason they are so popular.

There are many different types of sniper rilfes. They can be electric, gas, or spring. The electric airsoft sniper rifles are good, but the gears can wear out quickly. The gas can be too load. The spring airsoft sniper rifle is the kind I always recommend because they last the longest and are much more dependable.

Airsoft sniper rifles are typically single shot bolt action rifles which can take longer to load and prepare to fire. They also shoot farther and more accurate than other rifles and pistols.

Sniper rifles require you to stay where you are and pick off your targets. Beginners enjoy this method because they can usually take out anyone coming near them.

As the beginning play logs in more hours of airsoft play, they often decide on a different type of weapon that allows them more movement. It is fun to pick off your opponents, but it is also fun to sneak up on a sniper and take him out.

Even though an airsoft sniper rifle can shoot farther than many other guns, it still takes a steady shot to hit the long distance targets. If you miss, you will probably still have time to take a couple more shots before they are on you, but once your cover is blown and a few enemies come at you, your time will be very short if all you have is a sniper rifle.

For that reason I always recommend that a sniper also carry an airsoft revolver with them for those quickly approaching targets.

Are Airsoft Guns Dangerous?

Are airsoft guns dangerous? Many people ask me that question and at first I gave serious answers, but after hearing the same question again and again I decided to have a little more fun with it.

The people asking the question aren't really asking if airsoft guns are dangerous, they are asking how to be safe with airsoft guns. The reason they don't ask how to play with them safely is beyond me, but I'll answer that question here.

First of all, inanimate objects are inanimate. They are neither safe nor dangerous, they are just there. The person firing the airsoft gun and the person begin fired upon determine whether or not the situation is safe or dangerous. When we break it all down it really depends on the one firing the airsoft gun, because if they are being safe they wouldn't shoot at someone who was not wearing appropriate protective gear.

To be safe while playing airsoft there are a few guidelines that should be followed. Always wear safety goggles. I cannot stress that enough. You can't very well play airsoft if you don't have any eyes.

The next rule of safe play is to only fire when the game is live or when the person knows you are going to shoot them. Do not shoot at people while driving down Main street. This could land you in jail.

Finally, use the airsoft gun as it was intended and only use approved ammo. Leave the orange tip in place so you don't get shot with a real gun.

There is a great article about the guestion, are airsoft guns dangerous if you would like to read up more on the subject.

What this blog is about

I am going to blog here about extreme sports and I will also review some products and post those reviews here. For the first post I will review a website, SickSport.com.

Sick Sport is a website dedicated to extreme sports. It has rock climbing, airsoft guns, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, kitesurfing, and much more. As you can see there is a variety of extreme sports available there.

I have a special coupon code that can only be found here. It is for 10% off the any of the rock climbing gear over $20. The code is 10%OFFCLIMBING.

The other categories are all showing a discount price so no coupon is needed. Due to supplier restrictions, most rock climbing gear cannot be advertised lower than it already is, but coupons are allowed.

Take a look at the extreme sports gear site and let me know what you think about it.
